Christena was born in Denmark on 21 March 1857 and was five months old when the family set out across the plains. She was the youngest of the three daughters who arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on 13 September 1857 — the fourth, Andrea, had died on the way.
She married James Syme at Moroni on 26 September 1876, when she was nineteen. They had nine children, six sons and three daughters. The 1880 census finds the family at Wales, in Sanpete County. By 1900 they had moved a long way east: the census that year records them in Liberty Township, Buchanan County, Iowa.
She came home to Moroni, and died there on 9 November 1905, aged forty-eight.
Her line stayed close to the family. When the descendants met for the second time in August 1998, the conference room in Provo was offered by Jerrol Syme — one of Christena’s descendants.
